"Suarez wanted to leave"

TRANSFERS - INTERVIEWS Matias Suarez was very close to a deal with French side FC Nantes. The fans were worried about a possible transfer of their Argentinian favourite, but in the end the striker stayed at Anderlecht. "It was Suarez who wanted to leave", claims manager Van Holsbeeck.

"Suarez notices his status in the squad has changed. He is no longer a key player so he wanted us to look for a solution. We reached an agreement with Nantes. Their chairman and Guillaume Gillet tried to convince him, but for family reasons he decided not to sign the deal."

"Matias Suarez is still a member of our first team and only the best will play", says Van Holsbeeck.
