OTHER Francis Amuzu is no longer available for the Red Devils, but will play for Ghana from now on. The Anderlecht winger applied to FIFA for permission to switch national teams and has received news that his application has been approved. This reports Ghana's 3Sports.
Amuzu was born in Ghana to Ghanaian parents, but moved to Belgium at a very young age because his father was a professional footballer here with Standard and KV Mechelen. He grew up in Mechelen and played for the Belgian U19 and U21 in a total of 21 matches. In September 2021, he was also called up by Roberto Martinez for the A-team, but did not feature against Wales and the Netherlands at the time. Amuzu was also in the pre-selection of 55 players the Roberto Martinez had put together for the World Cup.
But Amuzu will therefore never become a Red Devil, reports 3Sports. In his request to FIFA, Amuzu wrote that he "considers it an obligation to play for his mother country as both his parents are Ghanaians". According to 3Sports, Majeed Ashimeru is said to have played an important role in Amuzu's decision.
Amuzu is expected to make his debut for Ghana in March.
