Heavy, but not deserved, defeat for Futures

GAMES - 1B The RSCA Futures suffered their heaviest defeat of the season in the derby against RWDM, 0-4. Hard numbers, which are greatly exaggerated. In a very attractive game, Anderlecht also had a lot of chances, but RWDM showed themselves more efficient and mature.


About 3,500 supporters had come down to the Lotto Park to attend the Brussels derby. They saw a very attractive match with two teams who wanted to play soccer and created a lot of chances.

RWDM opened the scoring early through Biron. On the half hour Stassin had an excellent chance to equalize, but his effort did not get past goalkeeper Dufourny. At the stroke of halftime, Vercauteren kept Biron from scoring his second goal and Camara kicked a free kick superbly against the goalpost.

Shortly after halftime Anderlecht again came close to the 1-1, but both Lissens and Leoni failed to score. RWDM did. After a perfect counter, Hazard put the 0-2 on the board. Through Challouk and Heris, the visitors ran themselves out to a far too spacious 0-4. It's not that the Futures didn't get any chances, but Dufourny had handsome saves on attempts by Lapage and Michez.

While RWDM is at the very top with three more points than Beveren, the RSCA Futures are dangling at the bottom of the Champions Playoffs. They tally 36 points, which is three less than Lierse. Next weekend the Futures will enjoy a weekend of rest. On Friday, March 31, Beveren comes to visit.
