INJURIES Adriano Bertaccini seems to be ready for his comeback at Anderlecht. The striker, who underwent surgery for a knee injury in early September, is training with the group again and is approaching his comeback. However, it is still uncertain whether he will play against his former club STVV this weekend. The artificial turf at Stayen is an additional point of concern.
The 25-year-old Bertaccini suffered a meniscus injury at the end of August during the European clash with AEK Athens. After a successful operation, he underwent rehabilitation for about six to eight weeks — a period that is now almost over. His recovery is going according to plan, but the medical staff wants to remain cautious.
A first appearance on the demanding artificial turf in Sint-Truiden could be too risky, according to the purple and white. Nevertheless, Bertaccini is eager to get back on the pitch. Last season, he became a fan favorite and top scorer at STVV with 21 goals. Those performances earned him a transfer to Anderlecht last summer, which paid around €5 million for him.
Meanwhile, the Brussels team is hoping for an extra dose of attacking power. Luis Vázquez has already found the back of the net twice, but still lacks confidence, while young talent Mihajlo Cvetkovic scored his first—and decisive—goal against Standard just before the international break. Bertaccini's return could give Anderlecht the attacking boost it needs.
