GAMES Yesterday, after the match, a strange scene unfolded on the pitch at Lotto Park. Under Bruno's direction, the substitutes, bench players and unused squad members completed a full training session there. It is not unusual for players who have seen little or no action to do a bit of sprint work on the pitch to clock up their high-intensity runs, but Bruno went a step further. The pitch was turned into a training ground, and they worked through a match simulation that even involved match-winner Bertaccini.
It at least shows the great energy with which the Portuguese has got to work. The question, of course, is whether that extra workload is such a good thing for the Lotto Park pitch. It was holding up reasonably well yesterday, but another match is already scheduled for Thursday.
