GAMES Anderlecht will defend a comfortable 3-0 lead against Kairat Almaty at Lotto Park on Thursday evening. Yet Vítor Bruno does not want to hear any talk of a formality. The Portuguese coach is demanding the same sharpness as in the first leg. “Match mentality is non-negotiable,” Bruno stressed.
“As far as I know, matches are not won at half-time. In Almaty, we played the first half; on Thursday, the second follows.” Above all, the coach wants to prevent his players from underestimating the opposition. According to Bruno, there are plenty of examples in the European qualifiers of teams that still managed to turn things around despite a big deficit. “There are always teams that, from what seems like a lost position, still make it through. Underestimating Kairat would be a total lack of respect. That is not how I think.”
