A notable transfer on the sidelines at Anderlecht: top attorney Sven Mary (54) will defend the legal interests of the record champion and owner Marc Coucke. From now on, Mary will also personally assist Coucke with his investment company, Alychlo.
His first major case will be the new trial concerning the sale of Anderlecht to Coucke in 2017. The investigation will examine whether Coucke may have been defrauded during the takeover. Among others, former CEO Jo Van Biesbroeck, former director Herman Van Holsbeeck, and player agent Christophe Henrotay will have to answer for their actions in this case.

Even after that, according to our information, Mary will remain affiliated with Anderlecht as the club's attorney. The criminal defense attorney's love for the Purple & White is by no means new. In his youth, he played for Anderlecht's youth academy and dreamed of a professional career, until a serious injury put an end to it.
Mary gained international fame as Salah Abdeslam's attorney. As recently as 2023, he stated that he dreamed of one day becoming Anderlecht's president. “If Marc Coucke calls, I'll be there within fifteen minutes,” he said at the time.
So that phone call has now come. Not to become president, but to legally defend the interests of Anderlecht and Coucke.
