The Belgian national team lost with 0-2 of Bulgaria. It was the first match in the qualification round for the European Championship.
In the first 15 minutes, the Belgians were the better side.

Mpenza and Van Der Heyden could threaten the Bulgarian defense, but the goal fell on the other side after a mistake of Vanderhaeghe.
Petrov passed to Jankovic (who was faster than Vanbuyten), who scored.
The Belgian team couldn't play at a higher pace and not a single attack succeeded. Goor didn't get a penalty when he was pulled down in the box and on the other side, Peev hit the crossbar after a fast counter.
In the second half, the Belgians played even more weak and the Bulgarian team had no trouble holding the lead.
Anthuenis swapped Mbo Mpenza for Bob Peeters, but seconds before he got the chance to play, Bulgaria scored again when a free kick of Petrov deflected.
Balakov was on of the better players on the pitch and he launced several Bulgarian counter-attacks. Goor missed the best Belgian chance, 15 minutes before the end...
