Crosses from the wings too often lead to goals against

OTHER Of the last 10 goals Anderlecht have conceded, no fewer than nine fell after set pieces or crosses from the wings. This is what Het Laatste Nieuws notes today. "We need to analyze that properly," says coach Veldman. "I will definitely speak to the boys about it."


Hendrik Van Crombrugge and Wesley Hoedt in particular seem to be blamed. The duo were already playing better, to say the least. Particularly on the second counter-goal yesterday, both did not line up well. "I think it's special that that corner was so open," Veldman said. "We are going to talk about that. Because this way we are making it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves."

Van Crombrugge saves fewer and fewer balls

Het Laatste Nieuws also comes up with a striking statistic about Van Crombrugge. This season, he averages one goal against per 2.79 shots inside the posts. In his first season with Anderlecht (2019 - 2020), that was still per 4.59 attempts inside the box. Afterwards, it went downhill with 3.21 in 2020-2021, 3.0 in 2021-2022 and now 2.79 in the current season. 

The question is whether these issues prompt coach Veldman to intervene and change goalkeepers. Anderlecht did not want Bart Verbruggen to leave this summer because it sees a lot of future in him. The fact that the RSCA Futures are doing so well in 1B is largely to his credit. On the other hand, Van Crombrugge does captain ...
