OTHER Anderlecht will not appeal against the sanctions it received yesterday for the disturbances during the match at Standard. That means purple-white will have to finish two duels without supporters. Although the home match in question is not the one against Union, it is the one against Zulte Waregem two weeks later.

On October 23, the Standard - Anderlecht match had to be stopped early due to misconduct by some of the Anderlecht supporters present. Yesterday, the Disciplinary Council for Professional Football sentenced Anderlecht to a home and away match behind closed doors, €10,000 fine and another conditional two home matches without a crowd.

Anderlecht now announces that it accepts this punishment. Specifically, the sanctions mean that no Anderlecht supporters will be allowed to travel to the match in and against Club Brugge (15 January) and that the home match against Zulte Waregem (18 January) will take place behind closed doors. Yesterday there was talk of the home match against Union, but fans will therefore still be allowed during that match.

"Improve security Belgian football"

"Even though we are of the opinion that the penalties imposed are disproportionate and we regret that the responsibility is placed almost entirely on the club's shoulders," an announcement reads. "The financial impact of these penalties is also enormous."

"Nevertheless, RSC Anderlecht will not challenge this decision. The club chooses to engage in a constructive dialogue with the football authorities and legislative bodies of this country about everyone's responsibilities, in order to improve and guarantee security in Belgian football."

"Three people already identified"

In today's press release, Anderlecht reiterated that it intends to try to recover the damage suffered from the persons responsible. " For now, three persons have been identified in the police investigation, which is still ongoing. The club itself already initiated two proceedings for civil exclusion and will take further legal action."

Anderlecht further announces that it will continue to take strict action against people who are misbehaving in the future.
