OTHER Anderlecht has just announced the contract extension of Mario Stroeykens. The attacking midfielder signed a deal today, on his 19th birthday, until 2026. "We will do everything we can to develop Mario's full potential in the coming years," said CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg.
Stroeykens still had a contract with Anderlecht until the end of this season. For many months there had been talk of an extension, but the player wanted the prospect of sufficient playing minutes in the first team. Today the deal was finally sealed.
"Our own youth players will always remain an important asset for RSC Anderlecht. That is why we are very pleased that, after players like Theo Leoni and Yari Verschaeren, we can now also tie Mario Stroeykens to the club longer," said Fredberg.
"As a player who grew up here at the club, I am very proud with this new contract," Stroeykens indicated. "It shows the confidence the management has in me and I myself am happy to be part of the new wind blowing through the club. I will continue to work every day to improve and look forward to experiencing a lot more of that indescribable feeling when you play as a Neerpede player in front of a full Lotto Park."
