INTERVIEWS Silke Vanwynsberghe, the 28-year-old defender of the RSCA Women, has decided to hang up her soccer shoes. Despite her relatively young age, she struggled with injuries. However, her decision to quit is not due to physical burden. Vanwynsberghe wants to end her career while she is still fully enjoying the game, rather than waiting for her performance to diminish. After retiring from soccer, she will focus on her career as a physical therapist and her other passions, including running.
She currently works at REV Training and offers physical therapy at Avanti Stekene and the youth of SK Beveren. She is also preparing for the Linkeroever semi-marathon in September and hopes to participate in the Malaga marathon before the end of the year. "These are new challenges, but I feel in top form. I'm used to performing every week, but now I can work at my own pace to achieve the goals set," Vanwynsberghe said.
