OTHER RSC Anderlecht, known for its famous youth academy, has taken up the challenge of training high-level goalkeepers. While KRC Genk is considered a reference in this field, Anderlecht also strives to distinguish itself. The club has therefore appointed Silvio Proto as coordinator of goalkeepers. Proto will thus be much more than a goalkeeper trainer. Proto will develop a uniform training philosophy to mold the best goalkeepers, both technically and tactically.
In recent years, Anderlecht has delivered only a few high-quality goalkeepers, with Bart Verbruggen being the most recent success story. However, Verbruggen, who left for Brighton & Hove for 20 million euros, only went through his post-training with Anderlecht.
Other notable names include Davy Roef and Mile Svilar, who now play for KAA Gent and AS Roma, respectively. So there is ambition to do better.
Proto will establish guidelines for goalkeeper training in collaboration with Neerpede's youth leaders and coaches. He previously held similar positions at La Louvière and founded his own goalkeeper school.
He will also advise the first team, working with current goalkeeper trainer Justin Verlinden. Initial signs about Verlinden are promising.
Olivier Renard and Proto are also working together on the recruitment policy for new goalkeepers, further emphasizing Anderlecht's strategic focus on this position.
