GAMES The Belgian Competition Authority (BMA) has decided that Jong Genk, which would normally be relegated, may start the competition in 1B. The complaint lodged by several clubs was not considered sufficient to change the format voted on in February.

The complaint from Lokeren, Francs Borains, and Seraing (Union was also opposed to it) mainly concerned the fact that four professional clubs are certain that their U23 teams can compete in 1B. This quota will be maintained, and therefore Jong Genk will continue to play in 1B because no other U23 team is being promoted. Jong Genk finished last in the standings last season.

So, barring any surprises, in 2026-2027 we will return to a league with 34 matches, no playoffs, and two direct relegations.
