YOUTH Mario Stroeykens will remain at Lotto Park for longer. He has extended his contract with RSC Anderlecht by two years, keeping him at the club until 2028. The 21-year-old midfielder, originally from Zellik, has been with Anderlecht since his youth academy days.
Stroeykens made his professional debut for Sporting on January 15, 2021, in an away game in Eupen and has since played more than 100 games for Anderlecht. In the 2023-2024 season, he was an important link in the purple and white midfield with 6 goals and 6 assists. These performances were underlined by, among other things, an impressive goal in the Clasico against Standard Liège in the semi-final of the Croky Cup and a brilliant performance during the 1-2 victory against Club Brugge.
Earlier this year, there was much speculation about a possible transfer for Stroeykens, with interest from AC Milan, Braga, Galatasaray, and Olympique Marseille, among others. However, nothing concrete ever materialized. His contract was originally set to expire in June 2026, which suddenly made a free departure from Lotto Park a possibility.
