TRANSFERS The winter transfer window is approaching, and Anderlecht is already looking ahead. At the Raymond Goethals Trophy, sporting director Olivier Renard gave an insight into the plans of the Purple & White. His message was clear: sell first, then buy.
In front of the cameras of VTM NIEUWS, Renard tempered expectations about incoming reinforcements. “I'd rather not talk about specific positions,” he said. “That would be disrespectful to the players who are currently under contract here.” However, he acknowledged that striker Luis Vázquez's performances have been under pressure in recent months. “His commitment and mentality are exemplary, but we have to be honest: a striker is judged on goals, and that number is too low this season.”

Continue reading Renard emphasized that Anderlecht will work with Vázquez to evaluate the best solution for both parties. “If he leaves, we will obviously have to look for a replacement.”
Renard was also confronted with questions about the defense. Due to injuries and limited options, the central axis seems thinly staffed, but the sporting director nuanced this. “In addition to Sardella and Hey, there are also Ilic and Ozcan. The fact that they don't get much playing time doesn't mean they are inferior players. Moreover, they are under contract with Bologna and Aston Villa.”
It seems unlikely that Anderlecht will make any major moves in the transfer market this winter. “The squad is currently too large,” said Renard. “We need to slim down first.” Names such as Foket, Rits, Ashimeru, and Flips are still circulating within the club.
The conclusion is clear: the Purple & White will only become active on the transfer market once players leave. “That's just the reality of Belgian football,” Renard concluded. “Only then can we create financial space.”
