OTHER Michael Verschueren does not draw a salary for his role as Anderlecht chairman, Het Nieuwsblad reports today. His predecessor, Wouter Vandenhaute, did receive a salary, but the situations are different. Verschueren combines the Anderlecht chairmanship with his role as vice-chairman of the European Football Clubs (EFC), for which he already receives compensation.
Verschueren is more of a ceremonial chairman, whereas Vandenhaute was more actively involved in the club's executive management. Verschueren relies on Kenneth Bornauw for that work — Bornauw, of course, does receive a salary. In addition, Vandenhaute, together with his business partner Wouter Duyck, invested a substantial amount of money in Anderlecht at a time when the club desperately needed it to avoid going under.
