OTHER Former Anderlecht player Juan Lozano (70) was struck by a severe brain haemorrhage two months ago. Lozano is recovering in Belgium, but his recuperation has reportedly been difficult. Lozano was one of the absolute top players to have worn the Anderlecht shirt. The Spaniard first made a name for himself at Beerschot and, after a spell in the American league alongside Johan Cruyff, Anderlecht brought him back to Belgium.
From there he earned a transfer to Real Madrid and later returned once more to the purple-and-white. His career met a tragic end in 1987 when he suffered a double leg fracture after a tackle by Desloover in a match against Waregem. At Anderlecht Lozano won three league titles, two Belgian Cups, a Supercup and the UEFA Cup (now the Europa League). At the time he was on the verge of being naturalised as a Belgian so he could join the Red Devils for the 1982 World Cup, but political obstacles scuppered the move.
