GAMES Antoine Sibierski has made his decision: Nathan Saliba is also set to be one of Anderlecht's key figures next season. Still, the purple and white side realise that an exceptional transfer offer could yet upset those plans. After his World Cup commitments, the Canadian international has returned to Neerpede, giving coach Vitor Bruno extra options for the important European two-legged tie against Hammarby. Although it remains uncertain whether Saliba will start immediately, he is expected to develop into one of the team's pillars this season.

Anderlecht sees the 22-year-old midfielder as a key figure for the future. Together with Lukas Ambros and Mihajlo Cvetkovic, he is supposed to form the core of the revamped side. With his running power, intensity and growing contribution in attack, Saliba already made a strong impression last season. His performances for Anderlecht and Canada have also attracted the attention of clubs abroad. Celtic and SC Freiburg, among others, are closely monitoring his situation, while his market value has risen sharply since his move to Brussels. For the time being, though, Anderlecht do not want to entertain a transfer. The club regards Saliba as one of the players around whom the future must be built. Only an exceptional bid could yet make the Brussels side reconsider. For now, however, an exit does not appear to be on the cards. In a squad still seeking reinforcements in several positions, Saliba is expected to become one of the undisputed leaders of the purple and white next season.
