GAMES Three weeks after their adventure at the 2026 World Cup, Nathan Saliba and César “Chino” Huerta have once again settled in at Lotto Park. The pair return to Brussels with a suitcase full of unique memories, extra motivation and the urge to help the Purple & White move straight towards the European group stages. For both players, the World Cup was especially memorable, as the tournament took place on familiar ground. Nathan Saliba defended Canada's honour and speaks of immense pride at being able to play in front of his own people and his family.

Saliba also pointed out that the World Cup has sparked huge excitement in his home country, where the number of youth football registrations is now rising exponentially. One of his personal highlights was his goal against Qatar, which he dedicated to his injured friend Ismaël Koné. César Huerta, meanwhile, experienced his World Cup debut with Mexico. The experience is “etched in his memory forever”, and he returns to Belgium with a strong dose of hunger and a desire to prove himself.

After their elimination, the two men enjoyed very different breaks. Saliba opted not to take a holiday and stayed with his family in Montréal, while Huerta spent a few days recharging on the beach. Both internationals are now back. Saliba has already made it clear that he wants to take on more responsibility this season to lift the team, while Huerta is determined to wipe away the disappointment of last season. On Thursday, Anderlecht already face a crucial European clash against Swedish side Hammarby. Both players stressed the enormous importance of that fixture: the Purple & White must and will secure European football.
