INJURIES Yari Verschaeren (25) has been an official free agent for a month now, but the former Anderlecht midfielder still hasn't found a new club.
After seven seasons and 260 games for Anderlecht, Verschaeren's time with the club came to an end last season. The skillful midfielder ultimately left without a transfer fee, despite the high expectations that once surrounded his talent.
At the time of his departure, however, a transfer abroad seemed imminent. “I'm 90 percent sure it will be a foreign club,” Verschaeren said in late May. He even hinted that his new destination would be announced soon. More than two months later, however, things remain remarkably quiet.
The last concrete link dates back to June, when the Italian club Sampdoria showed interest. Verschaeren himself wasn't entirely keen on a move to the Serie B club, so the talks did not lead to an agreement. Since then, there has been hardly any news. Sources close to the player say his focus is entirely on his next destination. Still, time is running out now that leagues in various countries are getting back underway.
