GAMES Anderlecht qualified for the quarter finals of the Europa League. Which team will be the next opponent? Belgium is the only country with two teams still in competition. So a match between Anderlecht and Racing Genk (that beat AA Ghent, that other Belgian team) is possible.

The following teams are still in the running:

  • RSC Anderlecht (Bel)
  • Racing Genk (Bel)
  • Ajax (Neth)
  • Manchester United (Eng)
  • Olympique Lyon (Fra)
  • Besiktas (Tur)
  • Schalke 04 (Ger)
  • Celta Vigo (Spa)
The good European campaign of Anderlecht has also led to an improvement of the club's ranking: Anderlecht is now the 31st club on the UEFA Ranking. The ranking is being led by Real Madrid, followed by Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus. The Mauves remain ahead of other big European clubs such as Liverpool and AS Roma.

Also Belgium is fairing well with the performance of its clubs. The Jupiler Pro League is being ranked as 9th best in Europe, but will overtake the Ukraine next year and climb to the 8th position. This could even already happen this season, depending on the results of Genk and Anderlecht in the quarter finals. And also Portugal, number 7 on the ranking, is not far ahead.
The 8th position on the ranking does not give Belgium an extra participant to the European competitions. Only if a Belgium club also wins the Europa League, Belgium can send an extra participant.
