GAMES FC Salzburg has had a particularly impressive start to the season. The Austrians remain undefeated in the league and currently sit in second place in the standings, just three points behind Rapid Vienna, whom they soundly defeated 5-1. They also hold a five-point lead over LASK Linz, the defending champion.
On the European stage, Salzburg is in 21st place in the Europa League group stage, just ahead of RSC Anderlecht, with one more point. After advancing through the qualifying rounds by defeating Paphos (1-0, 3-3) and then Mjällby (0-1, 3-0), the Austrians kicked off their European campaign with a 0-1 victory on the road against Levski Sofia in Bulgaria.
However, things got tougher from there. The Salzburg players suffered a heavy defeat against AC Milan (0-4), followed by a draw against the Slovenian team Celje (2-2). Despite these mixed results, they are still in an ideal position in the race for qualification.
