YOUTH Jayden Onia Seke is part of the squad called up for the U-17 World Cup with Belgium, but the Purple & White refuse to release their player. Onia Seke is part of the first-team squad and is currently making a name for himself.
Three other Purple & White players were also included in the roster: Noa Cobiella Ojea, Joshua Nga Kana, and Noah Kalonji. However, they cannot play in that tournament either, as they must help RSC Anderlecht Futures in their fight to avoid relegation.
Negotiations are still possible, as was the case last season with Nathan De Cat, but it is unlikely that Anderlecht will reverse what it has communicated to the Belgian Football Association. Anderlecht is not obligated to release its players for this tournament, as it is not part of an official FIFA competition.
Simon Mignolet, sporting director at the Belgian Football Association, has reacted very negatively to this decision and has barred these four players from being included in the Belgian U19 squad during the upcoming international break. Ilias Benktib and Rune Verstrepen will, however, be able to participate in that tournament if they are selected for the Belgian squad. Mattis Seghers is currently injured.
