INTERVIEWS Won't there be a 'new' capital increase after all? Humo unpacks again this week with an article about Anderlecht's operations. According to sources within the club, the capital increase recently announced is not a new one, but is still part of the end 2021 capital increase.

At the end of 2021, Anderlecht announced a capital increase of 42 million euros. An act necessary to save the club from bankruptcy. A quarter of that amount was to be injected immediately. At the end of last season, 15 percent followed. Now another 25 percent would have to be raised. The final portion would then follow at the end of 2026. "Wouter, however, immediately profiled himself and communicated the total amount. For the umpteenth time he threw sand in the eyes of the fans," Humo quotes sources close to the club.

In a reaction, main shareholder Marc Coucke said that there might be a new capital increase. "The remaining pieces of the previous capital increase have recently been paid up," Coucke said. "Wouter indeed spoke of a new capital increase. Will there be one? Presumably. It will only be certain when everything is complete, of course."

Humo asked a financial expert to review Anderlecht's figures. His conclusion is striking: if Anderlecht wants to fulfill its ambition of competing for the top four next year (what president Vandenhaute proclaimed after the board meeting two weeks ago), an investment of 100 million euros is needed. "There is no other way out than to add a shareholder or for a wealthy party to take over the club," the expert said.

Humo also had Vandenhaute find out for what amount Vandenhaute would have bought into Anderlecht. The search yielded the figure of 1.65 million euros.
