INTERVIEWS In his Monday analysis of the soccer weekend, Frank De Bleeckere of the Referee Department confirmed that Anderlecht was awarded a fully justified penalty kick. "Gueye comes with a stretched leg and fully hits Delaney's ankle," he echoed. "Just because you hit the ball for a moment or deviate doesn't mean there's no mistake."
"Live it was hard to see because it's very fast, but it's also a situation that the VAR is going to check. Who has seen that Gueye goes to the ball with a stretched leg. He is too late, because he touches the ball when it has left Delaney's foot. He then briefly touches the ball, but because he comes with a very dangerous maneuver, a stretched leg, he also hits full on Delaney's ankle, or even above it."
"You also saw that referee Lambrechts did not stand in front of the screen for a long time. He saw a contact sufficient for a penalty kick and we support that decision."
"Just because you touch or deviate the ball for a moment doesn't mean there's no mistake," De Bleeckeren continued. "He makes a dangerous action with a stretched leg and the studs forward. Then you take a big risk. The contact was full on the ankle. Then you can very well justify that penalty kick."
