Referee Department: 'Contact was too light for penalty'

INTERVIEWS In the Referee Department's weekly discussion, Frank De Bleeckere declared that it was indeed not a penalty kick error on Jan Vertonghen. "On the footage from behind the goal you can see that the RWDM defender tapped the ball," he said.

"We don't often see such a situation in Belgium," de Bleeckere began. "In this case, there is a camera angle behind the goal. On that, you see the RWDM defender tapping the ball. After that or at the same time, which is hard to see on the footage, there is also a contact on Jan Vertonghen's calf."

"All these aspects make it our position that the situation is too light for a penalty kick."
