YOUTH Tristan Degreef, Lars Montegnies, Luca Monticelli and Nathan De Cat have had a baleful night. The Anderlecht players were active the past few days at the national U19 and U17 in the hope of getting a European Championship ticket, but they just missed out.
The Belgian U19 beat the Netherlands 3-2 yesterday. Tristan Degreef started and was substituted after 70 minutes. Lars Montegnies came between the lines in the 95th minute. Luca Monticelli remained on the bench. On Saturday, the Belgians won 2-0 against Lithuania. Degreef played 64 minutes then. Montegnies and Monticellie came on together after 76 minutes.
In the elite round, the Belgian U19 finish like France with six points from three duels, but the French qualify as group winners for the EC because they won the match between them.
Nathan De Cat
One Anderlecht player was active in the Belgian U17: Nathan De Cat. He played the entire match both yesterday against the Netherlands (2-2) and Saturday against Italy (3-5 loss). Belgium finished second in its group with 4 out of 9. In the U17, the seven best runners-up from the eight groups are also allowed to go to the EC, but Belgium was the worst of all the runners-up. So no EC.
