INTERVIEWS With Thomas Foket, Anderlecht is not just bringing in a new player. The 31-year-old right-back grew up in Dilbeek, a neighbouring municipality of Anderlecht. "I have been a supporter of this wonderful club since childhood," he said in a first reaction.
"This is literally a childhood dream come true," Foket says. At his performance, Anderlecht shows images from his childhood in a purple and white Anderlecht shirt with the big red G of General Bank. "It always did play in my head to be able to play here one day, and it's a blissful feeling to really be able to put on this jersey now," he says.
"My grandmother lives a street away. For my birthday I got an Anderlecht jersey and I was very happy with it. At the time, it seemed impossible for me to ever really wear it. I played at Dilbeek with friends back then. Football meant having fun with copains. Afterwards, we would then go and watch Anderlecht."
"I always said 'you never know, but one day I have to wear that jersey.' And now I'm sitting here and it's effectively mine. It's a great feeling. I want to be able to say that I have given everything for the club and that I am worthy of this jersey."
