‘Supporters and players deserve respect’

INTERVIEWS Mauves Army were not happy with the absence of the Standard fans and only entered the stadium after 12 minutes. Their action was not at all liked by either the rest of the supporters or the players, who did not stop at Mauves Army's level after the match to celebrate the victory. 


The moment could not have been more unfortunate either. The absence of away supporters during the Clasico comes as a result of the many disturbances in recent seasons. Just last week against Real Sociedad, ‘supporters' made too much of a fuss. So to then protest a few days later was not at all on good terms with the rest.

Mauves Army were already treated to a ‘shame on you' from the rest of Lotto Park. And the players' group too stopped at applauding already passing and did not stop.

Mario Stroeykens expressed the displeasure best of all. ‘If they want away fans back during the match, maybe they should start setting a good example themselves. The other supporters and the player group deserve that respect.'
