Vertonghen still not fit

INJURIES According to Het Nieuwsblad, Jan Vertonghen is not ready to play even after the international break. The captain has been struggling with Achilles tendons for quite some time and will not be ready to play until he is completely relieved of the pain. Lieven Maesschalck hinted that several more weeks are needed.


Vertonghen dropped out after two playing days this season. So currently, the record international is also rehabilitating with Lieven Maesschalck who is trying to get him ready as soon as possible. Vertonghen will therefore normally not be available for Beerschot nor for Ludogorets. This is followed by the game at Club Brugge, which may not be the appropriate match for Vertonghen to return after a long, nasty injury.

It has also been claimed that Vertonghen would not be ready to play again until 2025, but the player himself is making every effort to return earlier. Vertonghen already returned sooner and paid the price for it by relapsing again. Surgery is impossible anyway because the rehabilitation period is too long.
