What you need to know about Tubize-Braine

Tonight Anderlecht will play Royal Union Tubize-Braine in the 1/16th finals of the Cup of Belgium. For most of us, this club is a noble unknown. So time for a brief introduction.

Royal Union Tubize-Braine is the FC Tubize we remember from the 2008-2009 season in first division. After that one year in the top division, things went downhill for the club. In March 2021, it finally merged with Stade Braine. The new merger club Royale Union Tubize-Braine retained the FC Tubize's tribal number and stadium.

Last season, Tubize-Braine finished third in the second amateur division. Due to the division between Flanders and Wallonia in the amateur football competitions since this season, Tubize-Braine is playing in the highest amateur division of the Walloon wing this season. There it is currently fourth with 18 points from ten games.

Some familiar names

Last weekend, Tubize-Braine played a 1-1 draw against Union Rochefort, third last. Kylian Hazard scored the equalizer in the 92nd minute.

Tubize-Braine played with: De Bolle, Delhaye, Denayer, Hendrickx, Migliore (60‘ Hazard), Can Tepe (75' Salazaku), Essikal, Garlito, Lauwrensens (56‘ Prso), Crame, Toutou (46' Shala)

Coach at Tubize-Braine is Drazen Brncic, a familiar name for those who followed our football in the 1990s. He played then at Charleroi and afterwards secured contracts at Inter and AC Milan. Playing there he hardly did, if at all. Brncic has now spent a year with Tubize-Braine. Before that, he was coach of Union, Patro Eisden, Seraing, RWDM and FC Liege.

The best-known name at Tubize-Braine is the one of Kylian Hazard. He was sidelined for six months with an injury, but in the past four games he was allowed to come in. Furthermore, we recognize Gilles Denayer. The now 28-year-old defender played for Anderlecht for a long time and even made it to captain of the U21. The 20-year-old left back Emmanuel Salazaku played for the Anderlecht youth from 2020 to 2022.

Goalkeeper Thomas De Bie (Cercle, Ostend), Jonathan Hendrickx (a.o. Lommel, Lierse) and Karim Essikal (a.o. Mouscron, Zulte Waregem, Beerschot) have experience in professional football. Defender Lorenzo Prso is the son of Croatian former striker Dado Prso.
