Early goal by Simic brings Anderlecht into semifinals

GAMES Anderlecht has qualified for the semifinals of the Cup of Belgium. In a purple-and-white affair, it defeated Beerschot 0-1. After only two minutes, the score was already on the board.
Anderlecht had a dream start at the Kiel. Less than two minutes in, Vazquez headed a free kick onto goalkeeper Shinton. Simic was in the right place to push the leather into goal. Anderlecht on a roll and it continued to dominate the opening stages. Shinton had to clear a dangerous cross from Augustinsson.

Continue reading At the other end, the first chance was for former Anderlecht player Colassin. In the second part of the first half, Anderlecht had another handful of chances through Sardella, Dreyer and Vazquez. The 0-1 halfway through was deserved.
Anderlecht started the second half without Augustinsson. An injury? After the break, Beerschot fought their way more and more into the match. Henderson, Dagba and Verlinden went for their chances. Coosemans kept alert. Midway through the second half, Hazard and Amuzu came off the bench. Hubert switched to a three-man defense and Hazard took charge of the entire left wing.
However, it was Beerschot that managed the most offensively. The Rats enthusiastically went in search of the equalizer, but Coosemans again showed his worth for Anderlecht. Even the six minutes of injury time did not bring any more change. Anderlecht can prepare for a semi-final of the Belgian Cup against Antwerp.
