GAMES Anderlecht's hopes for a European turnaournd were dashed once again as they settled for a 2-2 draw against Fenerbahçe. Despite the result, the Belgian side displayed commendable resilience, leaving the competition with their heads held high, even amidst disturbances from the stands. The match began dramatically for Anderlecht, who found themselves trailing early on. Just four minutes in, a weak pass from Hey allowed Dzeko to set up En-Nesyri for the opening goal.

The presence of Turkish fans celebrating in the Anderlecht sections led to unrest, prompting the referee to halt the game temporarily. After a brief interruption, Anderlecht returned to the pitch revitalized. They capitalized on a mistake from the Fenerbahçe goalkeeper, with Vazquez leveling the score. Earlier, Vazquez had been denied a penalty when he was pushed down, adding to the tension of the match.

Although Anderlecht struggled to create clear chances, they maintained high pressure and effective ball movement. A well-executed attack involving Hazard and Huerta culminated in Vazquez scoring his second goal, briefly igniting hopes of a victory.

However, those hopes were quickly dashed when Yusuf equalized with a header from a corner just eight minutes later. As the match drew to a close, Vertonghen made his return to the field, and De Cat made his debut. The game ultimately ended in a stalemate, leaving Anderlecht to focus on their domestic campaign in the weeks ahead.
