YOUTH The national coaches of the Red Devils and the Belgian U21 announced this afternoon their selections for the upcoming international matches. Neither called up a player from Anderlecht. Mario Stroeykens would normally have been there with the U21, but at Anderlecht's request he will stay at home.
The U21 are facing a generational change and will play practice matches against Andorra and Sweden in March. Coach Gill Swerts called a lot of new names, but no Anderlecht players. Although Stroeykens was foreseen. “We are still careful with him after his ankle injury,” said David Hubert this afternoon on his press call. “For example, it was agreed that he would only play one hour against Standard.” At Anderlecht's request, Stroeykens was therefore not called up for the national U21.
For the Red Devils, Leander Dendoncker, Killian Sardella and Thorgan Hazard were in the pre-selection, but none of them made the final selection of 26 players.
