INTERVIEWS How would it be with Anders Dreyer? That's what Het Nieuwsblad also asked, and the newspaper called the Dane in San Diego, his new home since February. “We already feel at home in California,” Dreyer said. “We already won four times with San Diego and my personal statistics are also good.”
According to Dreyer, the level of the American league is similar to the Belgian one. “With a lot of open play and chances, it's fun to play soccer here for offensive players,” Dreyer said.

Continue reading A few months back in time then. On Jan. 31, it became known that Dreyer was waving goodbye to Anderlecht after two years. “I felt from everything that it was time to leave. There was chaos,” Dreyer refers to the departure of Brian Riemer and Jesper Fredberg. He had a very good relationship with both of them. “Then you know the book is closing. The club also pushed for a transfer.”
Dreyer says he never spoke to Olivier Renard himself. Only his agent did. According to Dreyer, he had to leave because Renard wanted to get new players.
“Fans have to decide what they want.”
That Anderlecht fired Brian Riemer, Dreyer still does not understand. “It was surprising. It rarely happens that a coach loses one match and has to leave,” Dreyer said. Who points out that under Riemer, Anderlecht competed for the national title until the end last season. According to the winger, the player group under Riemer had the feeling of being able to decide a match out of nothing. “We were still picking up our points,” he said.
The journalist reminds Dreyer that Riemer received a lot of criticism for the way he played, and that that in particular was the straw to fire him. Dreyer disagrees and pleads for realism. “Dolberg scored 15 times last season, I scored 21. So it's not that we didn't do anything offensively,” Dreyer said.
“The fans also have to decide what they want,” he continued. “Exciting, offensive soccer where you win two or three matches out of five. Or more organized soccer where in five duels you win four and compete for prizes. Only Barcelona or Arsenal can do it all.”
The journalist points out Dreyer was not the most popular with fans either, despite his 31 goals and 23 assists in 87 games. “What more do you have to do to be popular. With my late goals and assists, I decided a lot of matches,” Dreyer states. Although he indicates that for him it is not about being popular with supporters. What is important is the opinion of the coach, teammates, my family.”
“Trying to watch cup final”
Despite everything, Anderlecht retains a place in Dreyer's heart. For example, he says that after his transfer was announced, he still took pictures of the stands at Lotto Park as a reminder. “I also hope Anderlecht wins the cup of Belgium. I will try to watch, which will be during my breakfast. Because of course I miss Anderlecht.”
