“We had a season with highs and lows, partly due to the many injuries in crucial positions. I myself was not always able to live up to expectations. The pressure was high, I knew few playing minutes last season and I am not the creative but rather the hard working force that takes care of the recovery and tries to advise young players,” he said.
The cup final has been haunting the players' minds since the start of the playoffs: “After Hubert's dismissal, we received an explanation from the club management. After that, the players immediately focused on their physical and mental preparation for this important match.”
As for his future, Dendoncker is uncertain. It seems unlikely that he will stay with Anderlecht, as the club cannot afford his purchase. He still has a one-year contract with Aston Villa and will soon have to enter into talks with the English club.
