GAMES Anderlecht's quest for the Belgian Cup ended in disappointment as they succumbed to Club Bruges with a final score of 2-1. Despite a strong performance, Anderlecht was caught off guard twice by swift counterattacks from their opponents. The match began with Anderlecht's Jan Vertonghen starting on the bench, and they were fortunate in the opening minute when Bruges' Jutgla missed a clear chance. Although Bruges started strong, their limited opportunities were easily handled by goalkeeper Coosemans.

Anderlecht gradually found their footing, with Edozie standing out, but they could only muster a series of corner kicks without converting any into goals. As the first half neared its conclusion, N'Diaye's defensive lapse allowed Bruges' Vermant to score from a well-placed cross, leaving Anderlecht trailing 1-0 at halftime.

The second half continued to deliver an engaging contest, with both teams evenly matched. Anderlecht appealed for a penalty after a clear handball by Vanaken, but referee Vergoote and the VAR deemed no infringement had occurred. Shortly after, Vermant struck again for Bruges, extending their lead to 2-0.

In response, Anderlecht coach Hasi made a triple substitution, including bringing Vertonghen onto the pitch. This tactical shift saw Anderlecht adopt a more offensive approach, pushing hard for a goal. Despite their efforts and a flurry of corners, they struggled to convert chances until a late surge saw Edozie assist Vazquez for a goal, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 with just minutes remaining.

Although Anderlecht's hopes for a comeback were thwarted, they can take solace in their performance. The final score reflected the resilience of both teams, with Bruges ultimately claiming the trophy.
