Disgrace for Anderlecht against Häcken

GAMES Anderlecht played another non-match against Swedish side Häcken. A silly penalty mistake in injury time ultimately gave the Swedes a 2-1 win. Extra time was fruitless, so penalties had to decide the outcome. And there, too, things went badly wrong. Anderlecht missed twice, Augustinsson hitting the crossbar and Vazquez shooting too weakly, while the home team scored four times. 

For the club's finances, the elimination is also a major setback. The Europa League quickly brings in millions in bonuses and match revenues (more matches). Next week, the team will try to limit the damage in the Conference League against Moldovan Sheriff Tiraspol. Another misstep is absolutely out of the question. Otherwise, there is a risk of a very serious sporting and financial slump.

We are curious to see if the team can recover by then. More than likely, there will be consequences: Vazquez may have squandered the credit he built up in the practice matches. There is a chance that players will now have to be sold to get the finances back in order. The departure of Dolberg or Stroeykens is becoming much more likely.

Of the newcomers, only Llansana seems to have secured his place. Saliba was substituted halfway through the first half. Cvetkovic did not even make it onto the pitch. Debutants Vroninks (also substituted early) and Kanate (red card) did not fare much better...
