YOUTH - TRANSFERS Anderlecht has made significant efforts to retain most of the promising 2009 generation within its academy. So far, 11 players born that year have signed their first professional contract with the club. However, some players are moving elsewhere. Following Onhese's departure to Standard Liège, Mouad Gounfissi has also left the club.
The young defender has joined Lille, who see him as a valuable investment for the future.
Gounfissi spent six seasons at Neerpede, where he progressed from the U11 to U16 level. In an attacking-minded generation, he played a key role as a versatile defender. Despite his strong physical qualities and his development in anticipating the game, he likely didn't impress the club enough to secure a contract due to frequent injuries.
Gounfissi has chosen to represent Morocco in the youth squad after there was no place for him in the Belgian national team. His younger brother, Mohamed, who has made significant progress since his arrival in 2023, is still playing for Anderlecht's U12s.
Lille hopes for more success with Gounfissi, having previously signed Wassim Lantaki from Neerpede, who now plays for Mechelen's reserves.
