TRANSFERS Anderlecht has inquired about the transfer options for Neal Maupay (29), but the French striker from Marseille is too expensive, according to Het Nieuwsblad. The attacker reportedly earns €300,000 per month. Japanese Kento Shiogai from NEC is also not financially viable.
Maupay played in the Premier League between 2017 and 2024. He scored 33 goals in 160 matches for Brighton, Brentford, and Everton. Last season, he played for Marseille on loan. The southern French club also had a mandatory purchase option of €4 million, which was activated this summer.
However, Marseille no longer needs the striker. He is not even on the European list. Transfers to Sassuolo and PAOK were an option, but failed. Anderlecht also considers his salary too high. Only if Marseille, with whom Maupay is under contract until 2028, continues to pay a portion of the loan would a move back become an option.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Anderlecht has also inquired with NEC about striker Shiogai. He, too, appears to be expensive. In June, Shiogai seemed poised to move to Red Bull Salzburg for €4.5 million, but an injury scuppered the transfer.
