Will Stroeykens sign after all?

TRANSFERS Now that the transfer window has closed, the uncomfortable reality sets in: Mario Stroeykens may have been hoping for a big transfer, and the club itself may have been hoping to pocket millions. However, the transfer did not happen. As a result, both parties are back in negotiations for an extended and improved contract. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, the initial signs are positive.


Stroeykens has stated that he is fully focused on Anderlecht, the club of his heart. And Anderlecht is willing to make an effort to prevent a player with a market value of 12 million from leaving for free in June next year (or for a pittance in January). So there is a real chance that Stroeykens will sign a new contract after all and Anderlecht will retain the prospect of a nice financial gain next year (or later). 

Het Laatste Nieuws also knows that there are no negotiations underway with Yari Verschaeren. The player also has a contract until June 2026, but is already weighing heavily on the wage bill. The club has no intention of letting Verschaeren sign a new contract, at least not at this moment.
