OTHER Anderlecht remains determined to appoint Alfred Schreuder as its new head coach and hopes to unveil him later this week. Although talks with the Dutch coach are progressing smoothly, a final agreement is not yet in sight due to complex negotiations with his current club. The Brussels side and Schreuder are largely on the same page; they have already discussed the make-up of his technical staff. The 53-year-old is positive about the project and keen on a return closer to home.
To facilitate the move, Schreuder would even be willing to accept a pay cut — in recent years he worked in the Middle East, where he was accustomed to significantly higher wages. Schreuder is currently under contract at Al-Diriyah, a Riyadh-based club competing in the second tier of Saudi football. The team is pushing for promotion to the Saudi Pro League and sits third in the table despite a recent defeat in a top fixture.
Club management, led by owner Prince Khalid bin Mohammed, is reluctant to let the coach go, which means Anderlecht is expected to have to pay a substantial buyout fee to secure his release. The coming days will show whether the purple-and-whites can finalise the deal and officially present their new coach.
