OTHER - OTHER It increasingly looks like Nathan De Cat is in his final months at Anderlecht. A contract extension is ready, but the entourage of the 17-year-old midfielder still won't bite. Since De Cat's contract runs until 2027, the purple-and-white will have to sell him this summer to secure a (admittedly very handsome) transfer fee. De Cat extended his contract in September 2024 by three years, the maximum allowed for a minor.
Last autumn Anderlecht wanted to tack on another year, but by then De Cat was already breaking through. That not only pushed up his market value, it also raised his salary expectations. According to the club both parties are still "on speaking terms," but Het Laatste Nieuws now reports that the chances of an agreement are slim. Anderlecht is dealing with a financial reality that prevents it from offering irresponsibly high wages. De Cat, for his part, has little to gain from a new contract — it would only strengthen Anderlecht's position at the negotiating table.
That makes a transfer this summer increasingly likely. Now that De Cat is appearing higher up the pitch and starting to score and assist, his value will only rise further. Within Anderlecht there are dreams of a transfer fee north of €30 million. A call-up to the Red Devils and, who knows, even the World Cup would boost his value even more.
