DAMES For the second year running, RSCA Women have seen the title slip through their fingers. OH Leuven were crowned champions last weekend after a win in Bruges. Just like the men, the purple-and-white women must now try to salvage their season via the cup. Preparation for the final was far from smooth: in the league they lost two points against Standard (1-1).

Sportingly the match no longer mattered, but Anderlecht still wanted “to win for honour,” said coach Dennis Moerman. The Brussels side took the lead after an hour through a penalty by Amélie Delabre, awarded after a foul on Luna Vanzeir. Despite overall dominance, Anderlecht left too much space and exposed themselves to Standard's counterattacks. The killer blow came in the very last seconds: Standard equalised in stoppage time. Moerman did not mince his words: “On the final action it's a problem of poor collective organisation.”

“In the play-offs we were better than OHL,” he added. The coach congratulated OH Leuven on the title, but maintained that Sporting were stronger in the play-offs. According to him, it was above all the points dropped in the regular season that proved decisive: “During the regular season we left too much lying around.” As runners-up, the purple-and-whites are already assured of European football next season. To still finish with a trophy, they must win the cup final in La Louvière in two weeks against Zulte Waregem.

The final play-off match, next Friday against Club YLA, will serve as a rehearsal. Moerman refuses to treat it as a friendly: “It's not going to be a friendly. I'm not going to make sweeping changes.”
