OTHER Yesterday the three players chosen to join this year's Pro League Hall of Fame were announced. Alongside Lei Clijsters the honour went to Enzo Scifo and Frank Vercauteren, two genuine icons in Anderlecht's history. Enzo Scifo (b. 1966) played 254 matches for Anderlecht, scoring 57 goals.
A major talent, he moved to Inter Milan in the summer of 1987. After a spell abroad he returned to Anderlecht in the summer of 1997 and finished his playing career three years later at Charleroi. Scifo won four league titles with Anderlecht and is currently working at La Louvière. Frank Vercauteren (b. 1956) made no fewer than 487 appearances for Anderlecht and scored 111 goals. With the club he won three European trophies (one UEFA Cup, two European Cup Winners' Cups) and two European Super Cups, and he played in five European finals in total. In the summer of 1987 Vercauteren moved on to Nantes.
After his playing days he served twice as Anderlecht's head coach, winning the league on both occasions. Scifo (84 caps) and Vercauteren (63 caps) were part of a strong generation of Red Devils in the 1980s (and into the 1990s in Scifo's case). Both played key roles in the 1986 World Cup, when Belgium finished fourth. Scifo also starred at the 1990 World Cup until Platt's goal for England ended the Belgian dream.
