TRANSFERS This summer, the Brussels club already saw Keisuke Goto leave for Freiburg for €13 million, while Ibrahima Kanaté moved to Kaiserslautern on loan. So far, only defender Giulian Biancone has been brought in. According to chairman Michael Verschueren, that is no coincidence.

“Biancone has qualities that fit perfectly with what we are looking for. He is strong on the ball, and we followed him for months before finally making the decision,” Verschueren said. Several other dossiers are also still demanding attention. Interest in Saliba is growing after his strong performances at the World Cup with Canada, but Anderlecht feel no pressure to sell him. Verschueren stresses that the club has drawn lessons from last season's disappointments. “We know we cannot afford another setback. That two-legged tie will immediately be an important benchmark.” Reaction to Brussels rivalry The Anderlecht chairman also looked ahead to the new competition format with 18 clubs, although he is not entirely convinced by it. He also reacted to the question of whether Union is now the biggest club in Brussels. According to Verschueren, their neighbours have impressed on the sporting front in recent seasons, but Anderlecht remains the historic reference point in the capital. “Union have done exceptionally well, there is no doubt about that. But you cannot ignore Anderlecht's history. A club with 34 league titles continues to occupy a unique place in Belgian football.”
