OTHER Anthony Vanden Borre ends his professional football career. The right back was loaned to Montpellier, but he didn't show up anymore since Christmas. Today he announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29.

Vanden Borre was promised a fantastic career when he made his debut for Anderlecht at young age. He rapidly realised a transfer to the Italian Fiorentina for nearly 4 million Euro. Yet, the defender was never really able to claim his place in the team. A period followed in which he frequently changed clubs, looking for his best form. Eventually he ended up in Belgium again where he had a strong period playing for Racing Genk. But soon it went wrong again: his mentality was far from exemplarily and he lost his place in the team.

Anderlecht offered him a second chance. He was allowed to join Anderlecht's reserves at a low salary. Eventually he proved himself with the trainer and was added to the first team. He was offered a new contract. For a bit less than an entire season, he played well and was rewarded with a selection in Belgium's team for the World Cup in Brazil. On the World Cup, he suffered a severe injury at the calf though. When he returned in the team, his football was characterised by nonchalance and carelessness. When he insulted his team mates and the technical staff during an interview, he was banned to the reserves again. Last summer, Vanden Borre was loaned to the French Montpellier where he played just 10 matches. Today he decided to end his professional career, though his managers will be trying to convince him otherwise in the next few days...
