Cobbaut went through the youth series of Racing and KV Mechelen. He made his debut 2 seasons ago at the age of eighteen at Malinois. In the regular season he was four times in the starting eleven.

In Play-Off II, he had to fell in before halftime on match day 1. He started the nine following games in the starting line-up.

This season, Cobbaut played all games, besides one, for KVM. Because Mechelen was last, it did not play Play-Off II and the season was already over for Cobbaut on 11 March.

Due to the stricter rules regarding 'football Belgians', Marc Coucke and Luc Devroe soon turned to the national Reserves. Aristote Nkaka is coming next season, Landry Dimata remains an option.

Cobbaut could immediately come. Anderlecht put three million on the table for the polyvalent defender, who can play both on the left back as well as in the center.

Whether Cobbaut will gain a place in the starting eleven already in this season is still to be seen. But his transfer seems to be a smart move with a view to the future.
