INTERVIEWS Milan Corryn surprised everybody on Monday by exchanging Anderlecht for AS Trencin. Why the choice for Slovakia? In Het Laatste Nieuws he gives today some explanation. "In Belgium they prefer a 28-year-old."

Corryn admits that Trencin is not an obvious choice, but he has thought carefully about it. "I did not want to play for the Reserves for another year, the time was right for adult football," said the 19-year-old midfielder.

Over the past few weeks KV Kortrijk informed about him and Olivier Deschacht tried to convince Corryn to choose for Lokeren. But his entourage doubted. A young, cheap Belgian usually serves in the first place to get the minimum of six Belgians on the referee's sheet, it was reasoned.

"In Belgium, the clubs usually choose players of the age of 28. I have to play now to take a step forward: at Trencin the average age is 23 years and I will get a chance sooner", Corryn says, stressing that he is not an exchange for James Lawrence. "I had contact with the president of Trencin since the end of July."

That chairman is Tscheu La Ling and is also a sports advisor to FC Eindhoven. Initially, the discussions were about a loan to that club. "But Anderlecht did not think the Dutch second class was strong enough, but the contact with La Ling has remained," Corryn said.

The young man from Gooik is looking forward to his Slovak adventure . "The club has a good reputation and an eye for talent, and every year it sells good players abroad", he concludes.
